Williams Reservoir: A Hop, Skip, and Jump From Bresler Reservoir

25 June 2015

Lake #41        Williams Reservoir, Allen County

After paddling Bresler Reservoir, it was just a hop, skip, and a jump to Williams. Grubb Road separates 426-acre Williams from its larger brother Bresler. While Bresler is a square with one corner torn off, Williams is a square with a couple pieces cut out. They both obtain their water from the Auglaize River two miles away and are used by the city of Lima. Like Bresler, Williams has a walking trail along the top of the reservoir wall that offers scenic views. There are no facilities here and only electric motors are permitted. The sole boat ramp is located on the west side of the reservoir off Sunderland Road.

When I left Bresler Reservoir dark clouds were looming overhead, by the time I was putting in at Williams they had disappeared. It is amazing the difference 15 minutes can make for Ohio weather. There were two men fishing along the bank and several people walking the trail around the lake, but no one in the water.

There is a wetlands area at the southwest corner of Williams Reservoir so I headed that direction once I put in. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any wildlife. I explored the water intake/outlet structure, which was a little cool. There wasn’t really anything else to see.

Today’s spotted baby duck made me think of my sick daughter. While we were in New York, my daughter was very ill. I don’t know how she managed to sing for an hour at Carnegie Hall. When we returned to Ohio, we learned that she had whooping cough (Pertussis). So not only did my 15-year old sing at Carnegie Hall while she was sick but she sang while having whooping cough. That has got to be a first. Baby duck Whoopie is named in honor of her determination and will to perform and with hopes of a speedy recovery.
